We had some unexpected visitors last evening. Now, we are surrounded by woods and these creatures abound in them and frequently they pass through our pastureland en route to another feeding ground. These fellows, though were a surprise.
Does usually descend upon us, a couple fawn in tow. Last night we didn’t see a single doe, but we did see three buck.
They look pretty relaxed out there. This is likely not the first visit to the farm. Lets get a closer look at those fellows.
These guys seem to have some inkling of being observed. I would never have captured these shots without already having that telephoto already mounted. Around here we have to act quickly or perish.
I must say I have never been this close to a buck. He really is magnificent. They have such a regal air about them and they didn’t flinch at my movement. So contrary to the female’s reaction.
I think that one on the left has about six points in its rack. Our son wished with all his might it had been hunting season. He fabricated at least half a dozen reasons to justify a shot. None of which would ever be well founded, even if it had been hunting season, because we don’t hunt for pleasure and we have plenty of meat in the freezer.
This is a clear example of why I love where I live and why this truly is a little piece of heaven here on earth.
